Excursion Programs for Half Day at Chiang Rai







CTSH 0 1. HALF DAY AROUND CHIANG RAI
DEPARTURE 08.00 OR 1 3.00    DURATION  4-5    HOURS
HIGHLIGHT: KING MEND RAI MONUMENT   TEMPLES - MUSEUM

Leave your hotel to visit Wat phra thad Doi Jom Thong on the hill top overlooking Chiang Rai city with its navel pillars. Visit also Wat Phra Kaew Chiang Rai where the famous Emerald Buddha (in bangkok) was founded in 1434 and wat Phra Sing. Then visit Oub Kham Museum with its collections of valuable artifacts from the Lanna kingdoms. Continue on to visit the Hilitribes Museum where you can enjoy learning the tribal cultures and buy some hill-tribes products. Then A stop is made at King Meng Rai Monument who was the founder of Chiang Rai in 1262. Then visit a panoramic view point of Chiang Rai city from the hill top of Wat Phra Thad Doi Kao Kway. Visit also Wat Rong Khun, also called The White Temple", inside it contains murals and painting of Buddha image and painted enamel ceramic floor. The outside is being created with lime scrupture Thai design decorated with small pieces of mirror that make the building sparkle and shine under the sunlight. Return to your hotel.



CTSH 02. HALF DAY MAE KOK RIVER
DEPARTURE 08.00 OR 13.00    DURATION  4-5    HOURS
HIGHLIGHT: BOAT RIDE - KAREN VILLAGE - ELEPHANT RIDING

Leave your hotel for a long-tail boat trip along the Kok River to Baan Ruam Mitr Karen Hilltribe village where you start an exciting  30 minutes elephant riding through the jungle and country side. Then, also by boat, return to your hotel.



CTSH 03. HALF DAY HILLTRIBE VILLAGES
DEPARTURE 08.00 OR 13.00    DURATION  4-5    HOURS
HIGHLIGHT : YAO, AKHA AND PADONG (LONG-NECKED) VILLAGES

Leave your hotel via Mae Chan district to visit Yao hilltribe village at Baan Pa Kam. Then continue on to visit Akha hilltribe village at Baan Lor Cha where you can witness their local life and culture. Then visit Long-necked Karen hilltribe village at Baan Ya Pha, a new settlement village migrated from Southern Burma a few years ago. Return to your hotel.



CTSH 04. HALF DAY DOI TUNG
DEPARTURE 08.00 OR 13.00    DURATION  4-5    HOURS
HIGHLIGHT: BOAT RIDE - KAREN VILLAGE - ELEPHANT RIDING

Drive up to the highest mountain peak on the Thai/Burma border, Doi Tung, 2,000 meters above sea- level. In the past, the forest area around Doi Tung was destroyed by shifting slash-and-burn cultivation. Until 1987, Doi Tung Development Project was established according to the King's Mother ini-tiative. A visit is made at Mae Fah Luang Gardens and Royal villa. Drive further up to Wat Phra Thad Doi Tung on the mountain peak, regarded as the holiest sanctuary by the residents of Chiang Rai and nearby provinces. The Wat was built in A.D.    911    and it is believed that the left collarbone of Lord Buddha is enshrined in the twin pagodas. Return to your hotel.



CTSH 05. HALF DAY D01 MAE SALONG
DEPARTURE 08.00 OR 13.00    DURATION 4-5    HOURS
HIGHLIGHT: YUNNANESE - YAO AKHA VILLAGES

Leave for Mae Chan     40 kms away.  Then drive uphill to visit Yao Et Akha Hilltribe Villages.  Continue driving up Doi Mae Salong to Santi Kiri KMT Yunan Chinese Refugee settlement, with its tea Et coffee plantations and also co-op store where home made wines, medical herbs and other locally grown products are sold.
The villagers are ethnic Chinese, descendents of KMT Nationalist Chi-nese army regiment that took refugee in Thailand almost 50 years ago when Communist Forces won the civil war in mainland China. Doi Mae Salong enjoys a cool and refreshing climate all year round. In January, Japanese Sakura flowers cover the hillsides.  Afterwards visit Akha hilltribe at Lor Cha Village. Return to hotel.



CTSH 06. HALF DAY MAE SAI 
DEPARTURE 08.00 OR 13.00    DURATION 4-5    HOURS
HIGHLIGHT: MAE SAI - GOLDEN TRIANGLE   CHIANG SAEN

Leave your hotel for Mae Sai, Thai-Burma trading border. Explore its local market, famous for products from Southern China, Burma, and Laos. Proceed to the Golden Triangle area, where the borders of Thailand, Burma, and Laos meet. Visit also the Opium Museum. Then continue on to the old capital of Chiang saes aged back to AD 1260 located on the steep bank of Mae Khong River opposite to Laos, to witness some magnificent ancient ruins and temples.
