How to get there: The start of rafting is at the elephant camp, or Pang Chang in Thai, along the highway 107 (Chiang Mai-Fang), which is about 35 kilometers from Chiang Mai town . Just before Amphoe Mae Taeng, you will find tw o elephant farms which also have rafting service, Pang Chang Mae Taman, and Pang Chang Mae Taeng.

Distance: 5 kilometers
Highlights: Mae Taman elephant camp, and Mae Taeng elephant camp have similar elephant services. The program starts with elephant shows, elephant riding or cart riding around the farm, and finishes with bamboo rafting for scenery. There will be some officers helping you poling along, and you may choose to just sit and appreciate the scenery, or to pole as well.
A raft can load up to 4 persons, normally there will be two travel lers and two officers, at the front and the back each. As the raft goes along Mae Taeng River, there are some small rapids named Kaeng Lung Sam at Had Huay Ya Tao. The river course parallels with Pang Kwang-Sop Kai Road, winding along the rich green forest for about 5 kilometers.
Caution: Rafting in Mae Taeng River is quite safe because there are no harsh rapids and it does not take long, so it is suitable for travellers of all ages. Yet, it is recommended that you wear life buoy all the time you are on the raft.
The Best Season: Mae Taeng River is suitable for rafting at any time of the year, and each season is equally attractive.
Rainy season : the water is muddy and high, so you may raft a rubber boat in this season. The surroundings will be exceptionally green, and you might even have a chance to raft in the rain!
Cold season: the water is getting low and clear. The weather is cool and fresh, so the picture of rafters in sweater is quite common. Because of suc h a pleasant atmosphere, there w ill be travellers most in this period .
Summer: the water is very low and clear, the trees along the river bank turn yellow-brown. Travellers w ho raft may very well swim next to the raft throughout the course.

Ranges of Rates : Both elephant camps offer somewhat similar programs in similar rates:
- elephant riding, cart riding, and bamboo rafting: 1,000 baht*
- elephant riding, cart riding, and rubber boat rafting: 1,300 baht*

Accommodations: You can lodge at Pang Chang Mae Taman by its homestay package, or stay comfortably in Chiang Mai Town. Many resorts and hotels in town offer Mae Taeng Riv er touring packages as well.

Mae Taeng River originales from Amphoe Chiang Dao, Chiang Mai. This is small rover with abundant forest along the banks. In face, the rafting activity here could not be called exciting, but the natural surroundings are an absolutely fulfillment. The course runs along the Phang Kwang-Sop Gai Road, and takes about an hour.
The Charm of Mae Taeng River is the natural atmosphere on the rover bank all through the course, which is extremely rich and green in rainy season.
