Niwet Thamma Prawat Temple

Some people may be surprised to make out that the great ancient capital city of Siam, which Buddhism has been very prosperous and boosts numerous magnificent temples, also embraces a monastery built in Gothic architectural style. This place is Wat Niwet Thamma Prawat, located on a small island in Ayutthaya.

Seeing the   temple   at the   first glimpse, most people normally misconstrue that it's a Christian church as the architectural style and the decoration details, especially the ordination hall, are all adopted from Western style architecture according to the King Rama V's decision to have the temple constructed in the style in 1878. The buildings, therefore, were made of brick plastered with stucco and features Gothic architectural form which Westerners prevalently use when constructing their churches . The pointed arches, the stained glass windows, and the stained glass installed over the entrance depicting the royal image of King Rama V look really fabulous with elaborate details.

The  ancient  city  of  Ayutthaya  is not only famous for its long history and countless exquisite monasteries but the province also houses Bang Pa-In Pal ace, a fabulous  spot we recommend to visit, as the summer palace can illustrate well the prosperity of art and architecture in Thailand. A long day for someone will turn into a very short time, but with extensive impression and longing to revisit this magnificent city again and again.
